Okie Dokie Cartridge Edtris 2600 Cartridge

  • Atari officially halted support of the venerable Atari 2600/VCS and 7800 ProSystem at the turn of this decade, and things seemed quiet on the development front until Ed Federmeyer created Edtris 2600, a Tetris clone that paved the way for other dedicated Atari fans to follow suit with creations of their own. However, although the 2600 is a very simple system from a hardware standpoint, it is considered by many as one of the most difficult to program for. Therefore the involvement in 2600 game programming has been thus far limited to the few and the dedicated.

  • Recently, however, several development tools have been designed to work with the Supercharger attachment, and this may perhaps lead to more assembly coders to try their hand at programming on the VCS.

  • For aspiring 2600 game programmers, we highly recommend that you join the GameTech mailing list, where you can discuss programming with other coders. Discussions of all classic game systems are welcome, whether it's for the 2600, 5200, Vectrex and even the Microvision. Anything classic is fair game.
