AGH Lynx Review:
CHIP'S CHALLENGE

Chip's Challenge Pic 1
Chip's Challenge is one of the most innovative and addicting action/puzzlers to come out in a very long time. It'll test your problem-solving skills to the max because there are over 144 levels (along with four bonus levels) of puzzles to solve, with each level offering something unique and different.

As Nerdy Chip McCallahan, you've agreed to take on "The Challenge" in the hopes of being able to join the Bit Busters Computer Club, in which lovely Melinda The Mental Marvel is a part of. You've secretly lusted after Melinda for a long time, and now's your chance to impress her!

Your task is to find the exit of each level before time's up. But each level has only one solution, and finding that solution is where the challenge lies. You maneuver an unarmed and undefended Chip through an overhead, 2D playfield filled with mazes full of nasty enemies and hazards. You have to figure out how to eliminate or avoid obstacles, collect any computer chips required and escape with your life.

As is the case with most puzzle games, Chip's Challenge doesn't tax the Lynx's hardware as far as graphics and audio is concerned. The sprites for each character and object are a tad on the small side, but it's probably due in part because of the necessity of having a wider viewing area than anything. The scrolling, however, is very well done. Sound effects aren't exactly awe-inspiring, but they serve the purpose by making distinctive noises for whatever happens on the screen. Music is of the standard fare with the "bouncy" and cheerful tunes not really detracting from the overall atmosphere from the game.

If I were Chip in real life, I'm not sure if I'd be willing to go through "The Challenge" to get the girl of my dreams. After all, I've been playing this sucker for quite some time, and I'm not sure if I'll ever finish this thing! Surely, there must be a better way to steal the heart of Melinda? Let's see HER do it if she's such a brainiac!
