BANDITS by Sirius
The first thing you'll notice are the innovative and humorous graphics of the spaceship gantry crane moving off the launching pad and an enemy saucer appearing. The object of the invaders, in addition to destroying your ground-based shooter, is to steal the five pieces of fruit on the Earth at the right of the screen. Ok, so it's not exactly unique, but no matter. This one is good fun. Your ship can use shields for protection, but the shield uses up the fuel supply at a prodigious clip. The first screen of thieving invaders has three attacking waves. Get through them all, and you graduate to a screen full of bouncing balloons called Nuisants that are trying to do you in. Get past this screen and you have to contend with the Torrents -- Centipede-like invaders who also try to seal your fate and steal your fruit. Attack patterns very quite a bit. They come at you in many different ways, and unlike most Space Invaders-type shooters, they don't just fire straight down. Their shots come at different angles, so you're not assured of safety just by not being directly below them. The one gripe I have is with the load time; a lot of the program has to load from the disk, which can take between ten to fifteen seconds. But Bandits is worth the wait.
