JINKS by Atari The gameplay consists of you (paddle) trying to get the alien thing (ball) from one side of a level to another, helping said ball past innumerable dangers and wierd floaty things. To help you, your paddle can move from the bottom to the top of the screen, and even flip directions, although none of this matters because the ball does what it wants to, anyway. I think even touching the ball merely makes it angry, and it's better to play the game by keeping your paddle in the corner and speaking soft words to it. Anyways, as you move the ball to the end of the zone, there are blocks you can break, points you can score, and enemies that can shrink or kill you. Also there are fans that turn the ball back towards you, and things that make the ball bounce away from you in an annoying fashion. Once a level is cleared, you go to an intermisison, where all four levels are open to you, and you gotta bounce the ball into one. This, more often than not, results in the ball going right back into the level you just spent hours trying to complete, which, subsequently causes the player to renounce the world.
Graphics are okay, with the colors being a little hard on the eyes. The enemies and blocks and stuff all look good, and you can see all that you need too, which is I guess all you could ask for, anyways. This game actually has digitized voice on the title screen (I think it says "get the bugs off me!!!" , and a neat little fake keyboard riff, but in game sounds consist of the following- Bleep. Bleep. Bleep. Bleepbleepbleepbleepbleepbleepbleepbleepwwwhhhiiirrrrbleep. Bleep. Bleep. Needless to say, the in game sound gives a whole new meaning to pain. I've started to read Paradise Lost, and I think that Milton had this game in mind when writing it. Anyways, a very wierd, pretty frustrating game, only recommended if you liked watching that Cop Rock show that was on TV a few years ago.
