I mean, here's a strange but wonderful mix of a space game whose object is to run over dots. This fact alone would make most players say "huh?", but it doesn't end there. There's absolutely no shooting involved. Zero. Zilch. These are the elements of CBS's adaptation of an arcade game which never made it. You pilot a spaceship that must run over and remove all of the solar cells in the screen. There are two sentinels, one on the top and one on the bottom, which shoot at you relentlessly. Another trademark unique to Solar Fox is the skip-a-rama feature. In every screen, there is a bar located on the bottom left of the playfield. If you complete the board before the bar disappears and before you're destroyed, you get to skip the next screen. The best part is you'll get points for the rack you skipped. Cool! Then there's the challenge screen, which comes after every sixth rack. In this one there are no sentinels but you must complete the screen before the bar on the bottom disappears. If you fail to do this, you receive no points for that round. If you manage to succeed, you not only receive points for the round but you also get a letter from the secret word which contains six letters. If you should collect all six letters, unscramble them and spell the correct word, you'll find the secret of the Solar Fox. CBS noted that if players sent the correct answer to the company, they'd reward you. I never did get that far, so I have no idea what kind of prize they offered. Anyone know? Solar Fox is terribly addicting, and everyone owes it to himself/herself to give this game a try. It'll own you; I guarantee it!
