AGH Atari 2600 Review:
ROOM OF DOOM

by CommaVid

Room of Doom
Your palms sweat, and your start to get the jitters as you try to find a way out of the Room of Doom. Trapped in the room, you see shots come from secret portholes that mysteriously open and closse. The fiendish gunmen are concealed behind doorways that open and close thus allowing them to shoot at you. Not only that, but these guys have unleashed a hydra-headed monster which relentlessly pursues you about the room!

Thankfully, you can retaliate against the firing squad. If you shoot them through the door openings, you're awarded 75 points. In addition, if you get close to the monster your gun will stun him for a few seconds; this is worth 50 points. But if you stay in the room too long before taking out all of the gunmen, the monster becomes invulnerable to your bullets. You start off with three Doom Room players, and each time you clear the screen of all the baddies, you move on to an even more diabolical chamber and earn another player (up to a maximum of six.) Many rooms on the upper levels have deadly objects scattered through them. Even the slightest contact with either the monster or these objects spell doom.

If you're a fan of "panic" games like Robotron: 2084 and Ram It, Room of Doom is for you. The action is wild and frenzied. And although it gets repetitive after awhile (don't most of these games get that way?), it's the type of game that'll make you want to play it over and over again. It's that good.
