Digital Thunder Announces New Lynx Titles for 1998.

12/17/97
Oystron is finally ready for public consumption! Piero Cavina's masterpiece is an original 2600 game that requires lightning-quick reflexes to defend your ship and your valuable energy pearls from the oncoming hordes of enemies.
Oystron can be played on any Atari 2600 or compatible machine. You will need a Starpath Supercharger or something similar to load the game until the game is released on a cartridge. If you don't have an Atari 2600 or a Supercharger, you can download an emulator like PC Atari. The 4K Oystron will eventually be released on cartridge, but in the meantime you can download the ROM file and check out the game.

Bob Colbert of Retroware is at it again! Although the yet-unnamed title is still early in development, you will not believe your eyes when you see so many moving sprites on the same axis at once. The game will be similar to Sabotage for the Apple II (and, for that matter, 2600 Commando Raid by US Games/VidTec) in that when a number of paratroopers land, they will climb your gun and blow it up.
We'll definitely keep you abreast on this breathtaking new endeavor by Bob Colbert.

Worms will apparently not make it to the Jaguar in time for the holiday season. At last report, Telegames has indicated that Worms has not yet gone into production. On a brighter note, those who have been holding out from purchasing any of the later Jaguar titles from Telegames may want to take advantage of a $10 price reduction on Zero 5, Iron Soldier 2 (CD), Breakout 2000 and Towers 2. This sale will last only through this winter holiday season.

VM Labs, the company that is developing the top-secret "Project X" game console, has apparently purchased the rights to Tempest/Tempest 2000 for the machine from Atari. As you probably know already, many of Atari Corp's alumni are involved with Project X (including Jeff Minter, John Mathieson and Bill Reehbock) so it's not surprising that Tempest would be one of its showcase games for the new hardware.

AGH has learned from a reliable industry insider that Activision is seeking to acquire Atari Corp! According to our source (who wishes to remain anonymous), Activision was not merely content with acquiring the rights for a PC (and possibly console) version of Battlezone and Asteroids and now wants everything that goes with Atari's name. They are supposedly in negotiations with Jack Tramiel himself. We'll keep you posted with regards to any new developments surrounding the possible merger of two of the most storied names in video game history. If the acquisition of Atari happens, just remember you heard it here first.

Atari 2600 Stunt Cycle Discovered!
This is not a typo. While hunting for classic carts, Clint Dyer of Northern California came across a cart that was hitherto unknown to exist in any form! It was discovered along with two other games, Pele's Soccer and Dukes of Hazzard, with the former cart being completely different from the one that was sold by Best Electronics. This amazing discovery is good news for the hobby, and I guess it's time to yet again revise our Atari 2600 cartridge checklists. For a description of Stunt Cycle and Dukes of Hazzard, click here.

As you may have noticed, Atari Gaming Headquarters has not been updated for quite some time (with the exception of the news page). And yes, we have a very good explanation for the dearth of new content. AGH is currently in the middle of a massive update, among them being -- 1) Registration of a domain name, and hence, a relocation in the not-too-distant future; 2) A complete redesign of all the pages; 3) Major upgrading (and we mean, AT LEAST the doubling in the content) of what's available here. We do not intend to open the new AGH to the public until it is thoroughly updated, so you will have to be more or less content with what's currently available. We don't want to give away all the juicy details, but rest assured that our site will be better than ever come the unveiling of the new and improved Atari Gaming Headquarters. Watch for it sometime this summer!
