As a general rule, successful game consoles have historically
bred piracy. Take a look at the plethora of unlicensed multicarts
that have proliferated the NES and Gameboy scene in Asia, Europe,
Latin America and even the US. During the classic era, the 2600
had to not only deal with small-time companies who tried to make
a quick buck by selling crappy games (Panda, Mythicon, US Games),
but it was the ONLY pre-crash machine to have pirated games
made for it. The manufacturer and distributor's identities are
generally not mentioned and is therefore unknown for the vast majority
of games. We do know, however, that Taiwan was the country most
responsible for bringing out ripoff games for the 2600. Take a
look at some of the hilarious artwork on the boxes and carts, and
enjoy reading some of the instructions that are written on the
back of the box of some games.
