Here is yet some more evidence that there will be LAB (life after
BattleSphere.) From out of nowhere comes
Protector, a Jaguar game that was apparently
abandoned but has recently been resurrected by Carl Forhan
for completion. Carl has received the blessings from the
original developers and has set about finishing the game.
As it stands now, it's about 80% complete.
Upon first glance at Protector's screenshots, you might
get a sense of Deja Vu, as it's quite similar in look (and
play-action) to Defender and Defender 2000. But a closer
inspection of the game in motion (an extended video feed of the
game will be found in Mark Santora's World of Atari '98 Video)
reveals a space blaster which has enough unique elements that
distinguishes itself from other games in the same genre.
Some of the main features include rendered enemies and
explosions, over three layers of parallax scrolling, fast
frame rate, unique power-ups, digitized voice samples and
over 40 levels of non-stop mayhem.
Carl is putting the finishing touches on what promises
to be a strong addition to the still-expanding Jaguar library,
and if things go as planned, we should expect to see it available
before too long.
