JOE RICARD'S TOP TEN COIN-OP VIDEOGAMES
grizz@redrose.net
10. Dragon's Lair
(Cinematronics)
I always wanted to buy this game and did many times (but
not the arcade machine) -- Amiga, IBM, CD-I, DVD. Someday I will
have the real thing.
9. Track & Field
(Konami)
I played this one a lot ,and actually prefer the button
configuration over the rollerball control panel.
8. Space Duel
(Williams)
Well I played the #$@! out of Asteroids and Asteroids
Deluxe with my buddies, but when we found this gem in 1981 we
knew we had our first awesome 2-player vector game with co-op
ship attachment... WOW!
7. San Francisco Rush
(Atari)
The titles says it all -- RUSH!!!!
6. Donkey Kong Jr.
(Nintendo)
When Nintendo released Donkey Kong, I thought it was terrific.
Then they released Jr. where the tables were turned as the player was
now the ape. Everyone likes both good and bad guys.
5. Tron
(Bally/Midway)
I finally was able to purchase one these original incredible
looking cabs, I must say that ever since I got it, I can not stop
playing!
4. Joust
(Williams)
2 player knights fighting on the backs of ostiches. Enough
said.
3. Galaga
(Namco)
In my eyes still the best and smoothest vertical shooter.
2. Stargate
(Williams)
If Stargate was never designed, then I would have to pick
its predecessor (Defender.)
1. Star Wars
(Atari)
The upright cab is beautiful but the cockpit version's
immersiveness was overpowering. I will never forget the feelings I
would get, {maybe it was just because I was kid.}
Honorable Mention
Centipede
Marble Madness (Atari)
Robotron: 2084 (Williams)
Gauntlet (Atari)
Tempest (Atari)
Blasteroids (Atari)
Hyper Sports (Konami)
Shinobi (Sega)
Star Wars: ROTJ (Atari)
Armor Attack (Cinematronics)
Ghosts 'n Goblins (Capcom)
Mortal Kombat II (Williams)
Super GT (Sega)
