TIME TRAVELER
By Sega
Time Traveler is the pretty well known as the first Holographic
video game. It was designed by Rick Dyer (of Dragon's Liar and
Thayer's Quest fame) and released by Sega in 1991. The images on
this page are actually rotated 180 degrees. The original machine
plays the images upside-down and uses a parabolic mirror to create
the hologram effect (which flips the image right side up).
This is a terrific LD game, with its goofy nonsensical story as well
as the "turn, fire" control method and time reversal cubes. The
laserdisc is absolutely packed with video and has a hidden scene you
can access through the attract mode -- By pressing both game buttons
and pulling down on the joystick with a credit in the game you will
see Rick Dyer dancing around with his son Cory on his back. By
pressing both game buttons and pushing up on the joystick with a
credit in the game you will see the games design team (thanks to
KLOV for the tip). The wizard and reversal cube lady have different
audio on the left and right channels.
